Ernest Shiu-jen Kuh

2 October 1928 – 27 June 2015

Ernest Kuh was born on 2 October 1928 in Beijing, China, but political instability led to his family moving frequently, eventually to Shanghai in 1937. Ten years later, he took a slow boat to the US in order to continue his studies. He advanced with them with great rapidity, securing a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1949, a master’s from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1950 and then a PhD in network theory from Stanford University in 1952.
