About
Richard the Lionheart was born on September 8, 1157 to Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. When Richard took the throne of England at twenty-six years old, he united with France in the third crusade to destroy the Muslim power in Jerusalem. Facing enemies on all fronts, he not only struggled on the battlefield, where he was held ransom and wounded, but also he fought with his own brother to remain king.
