The study is concerned with aspects of the culture of memory in the role played by the Middle Ages in literature, drama and film. Its thematic point of reference is the myths surrounding King Arthur (Matière de Bretagne) and Jeanne d'Arc. Wodianka answers the question of the way in which treatments of the Middle Ages are determined by internal medial, chronological or national structures and the extent to which in this a part is played by differing emphases on memory as myth or history.
