Collection of 5 detailed ‘quittances’ from the Ursuline Convent of Bourg-Argental, recording various installments of payment for the education of Isabeau and Antoinette Bollioud of Lyon, dated 1648-1655. With a further quarto (pp. (2)) of accounts in the hand of M. or Mme. Bollioud giving a reckoning of amounts due to the same convent, dated 1647-[1651]. Shouldering the cost for ‘sa chere fille’ Isabeau (Elisabeth Bollioud) and ‘nostre chere soeur Anthoinette', who became a nun at the convent, was their mother Marguerite, who held the rank of ‘Mme. Lieutenante’ in the convent herself after becoming a widow. Marguerite’s oldest child, the lawyer Pierre II Bollioud, had become his father’s universal heir in 1638, and he also stepped in to pay the fees of his sisters. The girls attended the school shortly after its foundation in 1638, and it is interesting to see how various generations of this well-to-do family from Lyon interacted with the convent school.
