About
Excerpt from Finland as It Is
This record of a very pleasurable journey was only published at the suggestion, in St. Petersburg, of an English bookseller. "During the summer season," said the latter, "I am pestered every day for books upon Finland. But what am I to do? There are none in the market. Most people have read Mrs. Tweedie's Through Finland, everybody carries a 'Murray's Guide, ' but there is nothing new on the subject. Why don't you write your experiences? Tell people in England and America how to get to Finland, and how to travel through it as pleasantly and as cheaply as possible, and I will answer for the sale of the book - at any rate in Petersburg."
Thus this little volume, compiled from very crude and careless notes, has seen the light.
