The Autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt's life (1884–1962) was full of experience & courageous action. Niece of Theodore Roosevelt, she married a distant relative & Columbia U. law student, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He gradually ascended the world of NY politics to become president in 1932. During his terms, Eleanor wasn't only intimately involved in FDR’s personal & political life, but led women’s organizations & youth movements & fought for consumer welfare, civil rights & improved housing. During WWII she traveled with FDR to meet leaders of many nations. After his 1945 death she worked as a UN delegate, chair of the Commission on Human Rights, columnist, Democratic activist & diplomat. She was recognized for her fortitude & commitment to liberty & human rights. Her autobiography constitutes a self-portrait no biography can match for its candor, wisdom, tolerance & breadth of view—a self-portrait of a great humanitarian of our time.
