About
J. L. Harris vividly takes you on a journey as he shares his struggles, his pain and his misguided footsteps. Growing up on the Southside of Chicago it didn’t take his family long before they packed up and moved to the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago looking for a better life. However , for J. L. it was like jumping out of one large frying pan into another. J.L. knew he was different. He wanted a prosperous lifestyle that didn’t involve poverty and he didn’t care how he got it. Dropping out of College at 19, he began his quest, searching for the good life, unfortunately, in all the wrong places. He spent his young adult life peddling drugs and indulging in gangs and violence that ultimately landed him in Prison serving a lengthy 25- year sentence for three counts of armed robbery. In Prison, J.L. saw firsthand the destruction and self-hatred of so many young black men who were misguided and full of rage and anger just as he once was. The experience was heart wrenching to witness and he vowed to change. Black Rain Outside My Window is J.L.’s inside perspective.
