Somewhere between spring and fall, life and death, one summer on my farm for the lonely hearted. Five strangers came in search of forgiveness for their sins…and, in their own ways, found it. Years later, when a young student questioned his decision to pursue the priesthood, I shared my story with him and the others who chose to listen. I told them about the journeys of my guests and the sins of an angel called 8. That same night, the Wrath of God unleashed a deadly virus on the world.

The Lonely Farmer weaves together a retrospective, spiritual love story with an eve-of-destruction, apocalyptic thriller. The epic struggle between mortality and the eternal soul is staged on a simple Iowa farmstead. The fight for life and death plays out in an overburdened Iowa City hospital. And on the back porch of a fraternity, the lonely and the lost search for the meaning of it all.
