About
Biographical account by Maria das Neves de Bragança about the Third Carlist War (1872-1876) in Spain. In 1872, her husband Alfonso Carlos joined the armies of his older brother Carlos, Duke of Madrid, and was appointed commanding general of the Royal Army of Catalonia. Alfonso Carlos distinguished himself at the Battle of Alpens in July 1873 and the siege of Cuenca in July 1874. Maria das Neves accompanied Alfonso Carlos on many of his military campaigns: she rode by his side in battle, took part of the joy of victory and the pain of defeat, cared for the wounded and never retreated before the horrors of war. This book is a memoir of a woman who lived in the first person, the events described.
