Melanie Tait was put on her first diet by a paediatrician when she was seven years old. By the age of 12 she was a Jenny Craig veteran. At 14 she was well known at her local Weight Watchers. She has tried every available diet - Celebrity Slim, Dr Cohen's, Atkins, South Beach, Skinny Bitch - you name it, she's done it. Melanie finally decided that the answer was gastric band surgery. Fat Chance is a funny and honest account of Melanie's journey through her fat life, before, during and after surgery. She tells us what the operation felt like, her slow progress to thin and, ultimately, the challenge of living with a band.
