Theophanu

Since November 2020, a mural of the Byzantine princess and later Empress Theophanu has adorned the side wall of the Holland Casino on the Waalkade in Nijmegen. It is the story of a girl who was born around the year 960 and lived for several years as a princess at the court in Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire. She was betrothed to Emperor Otto II and died in Nijmegen as Empress of the Ottonian Empire.
