Amelia Francisca Marchena Sánchez (1850-1941), better known as Amelia Francasci, isn't only the first female Dominican novelist and essayist, she is also now considered one of the country's founding authors. Francisca de Martinoff (1901) is her second and most important novel. With her book of essays Recuerdos e impresiones: historia de una novella (1901), she assumes an introspective and critical tone, thinking about literature and thinking about herself.
