Preserving Our Pale Blue Dot

Preserving our pale blue dot is an updated, thoroughly revised version of Strands In The Web, published originally by Pippin Publishing in 1994. A major improvement to this version is the inclusion of Background Notes for teachers on each topic. The 189 Activities are intended to complement, enhance, and reinforce student interest in, and concern for, the environment and to facilitate a productive discussion of environmental issues which dominate news headlines. Preserving our pale blue dot is divided into four Parts: Exploring the Environment and the Universe; Unity: The Wholeness of Nature; Change - Mother Nature's Changing Faces; and Concerns and Solutions. Each Part includes specific Learning Objectives, Activities, suggestions for Evaluation, and Background Notes for teachers on topics in that Part. Most Activities in this book require only a minimum of easily manipulated, inexpensive, and safe equipment or resources. Using them will help develop critical thinking skills: analysis, synthesis, prediction, and evaluation. In addition, many Activities utilize other important learning techniques, including the inquiry approach, problem solving, decision-making, cooperative learning, and role-playing.
