In the shadow of God
by Samuel Nala
About
Philip Miller is an American who has never been to Venezuela. He quickly becomes adrift in a world of dangers he does not understand, and experiences both love and hostility as he navigates modern Venezuelan society. His story begins in 2009. Hugo Chávez, the country's socialist-leaning president, is charting a new course for the country with his "Socialism for the 21st Century." He wants to cut all ties with Venezuela's past except for the glory of the Liberator, Simón Bolívar, and direct the nation on a revolutionary path. Philip unwittingly becomes part of President Chávez's "Revolución," and a pawn in the "Great One's" vision of the future. He sees history first-hand, then gets catapulted into an unforgiving universe where he no longer controls his own destiny.
