'Told and Not Told'

This paper discusses the uncanny in Kazuo Ishiguro's 'Never Let Me Go' starting from the definitions established by Ernst Jentsch and Sigmund Freud. The main goal is to discover how the uncanny feeling comes about in the novel. To that end, the thematic and stylistic features are examined. The most important uncanny theme in 'Never Let Me Go' is that of the doppelgänger masked as clone. The uncanny is also created by Ishiguro's writing style. He slowly reveals the novel's secret in an unsettling way. I also examined how the uncanny effect is achieved in the movie adaptation by Mark Romanek.
