Chang Tso-lin's Struggle Against the Communist Menace

A year and more has elapsed since the invasion of the Yangtsze Valley by the Kuomingtang armies of South-China. The dramatic and tragic happenings of this period have proved that the salvation of China cannot come from Canton, whose military success has been due to Soviet military help and whose political faith is that of fanatics having little or nothing in common with the rest of the world. The break-up and rivalry of the original groups is distracting the region which they have invaded and from which they have driven foreigners by their system of intimidation; and with the disillusionment which has come people are again inclined to believe that China needs not ideologues but a strong hand. -- Introduction.
