Os pioneiros da habitação social

This work, composed of three volumes, is the result of 17 years of research and study, coordinated by the architect and urbanist Nabil Bonduki, performed at the University of Sao Paulo. Bringing together unreleased and original analysis documentation, is the most extensive and complete publication on social housing held in the country. In the first volume, Bonduki narrates and analyzes the history of public housing production in Brazil in the early 20th century to today, where he reviews the role of government agencies created over the past 100 years to manage one of the most serious problems today in Brazilian cities. In the second volume, subtitled "Public production inventory in Brazil between 1930 and 1964", Nabil Bonduki and Ana Paula Koury, supported by a team of researchers, compile a survey of most of the social housing projects carried out in Vargas. This original research effort tracked 322 projects in 24 States, which are described here with technical, iconographic documentation and callouts. In the third volume, subtitled "Eleven proposals for living for the modern Brazil", analyzes in depth the main developments between 1930 and 1964. Nine researchers, under the coordination of Bonduki, expose here an x-ray of these projects, identifying their architectural influences, the socio-political context of your deployment, as well as its social use. Each housing project has extensive illustrative material, with photographic essays by Bob Wolfenson and three-dimensional models of unique designs. The result is a work essential to the understanding of an important chapter in the development of cities in the 20th century.
