Duden Familiennamen
by Volker Kohlheim, Rosa Kohlheim
About
Leading genealogists of Germans in Middle and Eastern Europe present their work, sources, methods, conclusions and suggestions for the future at a time when the disintegration of the former communist governments has opened new possibilities (1995). The book begins with names and addresses of genealogists, and heraldists, and organizations who can be contacted for research. Then the reader follows one genealogist after another as they show how the professional works. For example, Prof. Dr. Brandt of Minneapolis writes about what can be found about the Russian Germans of North Dakota (pp. 32 - 41). The work of the major organizations, the Verein fuer Familienforschung in Ost- und West Preussen (pp. 75 - 92) and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft ostdeutscher Familienforscher (pp. 48 - 51) is also described in detail. The areas being researched are Middle and Eastern Europe in general, East and West Prussia, Poland, Pomerania, Posen, Russia, Silesia, Southeastern Europe, Ukraine and Hungary. The former Soviet Union and the Baltics are the areas of the Ratgeber 92. The reader will no longer be able to say all the records are lost. Name and place register.
