About
Crepúsculo dos ídolos (The Twilight of the Idols and The Anti-Christ: or How to Philosophize with a Hammer), from 1889, the last book to be published while the German philosopher was alive, is, eminently, a maturity work. As Nietzsche himself says is his autobiographical essay named Ecce homo ? This writing (The twilight of the idols), with less that 150 pages, fatal and calm in the tone, a demon that laughs, a work of so few days that I hesitate to say how many, is the exception among the books; there is nothing richer is substance, more independent. A work of exception because it gives a voice to this composition so characteristically Nitzschian between destruction and renovation. Its subtitle points toward the more primitive sense of this composition: or how to philosophize with a hammer. The hammer breaks the stiffness with which the idols (the truth in its multiple facets) seek to adjust once and for all. By breaking this stiffness, he destroys not only what was already constituted, but returns to it its vitality and grace.
