"Time Song II - Howling Through Time" for Female Singer, Flutist and Percussionist

Time Song II - Howling through Time for female singer, flutist and percussionist reflects my current interest and ongoing research of various Japanese traditional music including Gagaku (music), Bugaku (dance-theater), Noh (drama), as well as the variety of folk singing and instrumental techniques in the traditional performance of such instruments as Shakuhachi, Biwa, Shamisen and Taiko. This work also explores the spiritual side of Japanese traditional music that is often incorporated as a part of ceremonies (including shamanist rituals). My metaphor of the composition is an imagined ritual, where performers experience oneness. There are five large sections, which I have named Stages I, II, III, IV and V. The word "stage" reflects the spiritual and emotional development through the piece.
