La Reina Roja

The original project inspired in the discovery of the "Red Queen" in Palenque, Chiapas in 1994 had painter and stage designer "Beba" Pecanins (b. Mexico 1962-2009) inviting more than 100 noted women (artists and intellectuals) with the propose of "making a personalized graphic of each of the "small queens" and give the work to each as appreciation for their support, including a DVD documenting the process and a catalogue" as stated in a letter Pecanins sent in 2008 to the invited women. After the fatal accident suffered by Pecanins in the early stage of the project, her family decided to continue with the elaboration of the masks and the exhibition. The present edition is a catalogue of the adorned masks by noted cultural personages such as: Astrid Hadad, Elena Poniatowska, Margo Glantz, Maritza López, Yani Pecanins, Ofelia Medina, Pilar Pellicer, Lynn Faienchstein and the late Esther Seligson, amongst other personalities.
