Who Will Cry for the Little Girl

This American Saga dates back to Barrett's great-great-great-great great grandmother, Chaney Rice, who was born in North Carolina at the end of the 18th Century in 1787. In the early 1820's the Rice slave owners brought Chaney and children to Greene County, Alabama. The Rice's established their estate in the Clinton and Pleasant Ridge Precincts, where they became one of the wealthiest and prominent families. Life was unpleasant for Barrett's ancestors, but they learned to adapt to the miseries of slavery. During the 1850's tragedy strikes, when five of her descendants were sold to another plantation in Pickens County, Alabama and several counties in Mississippi. Abbey, who is the heroine of this compelling story, struggles to survive in a world full of abuse, bondage, deceit, fidelity, and greed. Abbey's world crumbled when she was forced to deal with her family's disappearance, the crude sexual appetite of the white and black man, the desertion of her child, and repeatedly auctioned off to the highest bidders. Her only ambition was to one day see her family again and obtain her freedom. Beneath her pain and suffering, she learned to cling to her faith and trust the Heavenly Father, in hopes that He would answer her prayers.
