About
The year 2007 marks the 34th year of the existence of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA). Over the years since its founding, the Council has, within the overall ambit of its mission and mandate, carved a role for itself first, in the deepening of the roots of the social sciences in Africa's knowledge system and, secondly, in the promotion and dissemination of knowledge in and about Africa. It has done so with particularly close attention to the many dimensions of the African context of knowledge and the challenges of human livelihood on the continent, both providing the overall frame for the definition of its intellectual priorities and programme strategy.
