About
Margrét Blöndal's drawings are worked on paper and depict shapes or objects that are typically encircled by a halo of olive oil. The oil makes the paper partially transparent and fragile, underscoring the refinement of the drawings and colours. The publication of a collection of Margrét's drawings is the result of many years' work in many countries, and gives the public access to the magical world of her images. In the book's preface, art historian Gavin Morrison comes to the conclusion that language is, in effect, too coarse and cumbersome an instrument to describe the magic of Margrét's drawings -their refinement, elasticity and texture. The project is then best enjoyed in wordlessness, with practice. It's in this spirit that they are now presented in book-form. This collection opens up a visual world which will captivate the viewer in an inexplicable way. Margrét H. Blöndal lives and works in Reykjavík. She graduated with an MFA degree in Visual Arts from Rutgers University in New Jersey in the US. Over the course of her career, she's had many solo and group exhibitions, including a recent solo show at Fort Worth Contemporary Arts in the US, as well as at the Reykjavík Art Museum.
