The message in the 21st Century is one of doom and gloom. The end is nigh - asteroid strikes, terrorism, natural disasters, global warming and much more.Some people blame science for our current woes; others, often scientists, blame God. Frustrated by their attempts to come up with some answers to what?s happening in the universe, some scientists are turning their attention to new areas, including religious belief. They are no longer `playing god? but asking `Who are you, God??For their part there has been a rise in religious fundamentalism, not only in Christianity but also in Islam. This has led to the charge that religion is dangerous, that religious belief is threateningour world today.Rule 42: Science and God in the Dock examines some of they key points and issues in this debate.On one hand, it produces evidence from many different branches of science and looks at some of the current theories on offer to explain the origins of our universe and the future for mankind.Some are highly controversial, global warming for example, others are simply `bad science?. On the other hand, evidence is produced from theologians, philosophers and historians to explain the nature of God, and in particular some of the challenging questions that stand in the way of belief;time and eternity, death, judgment and the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Difficult issues are not ducked but the aim is to use simple language that ordinary people can understand.
