The Murderer Wore New Shoes

After the death of an old hermit named Abner Huckabee, his deserted farmhouse becomes the meeting place for a ring of cat burglars. When the ringleader shoots and kills a cohort, stuffing his body in the closet of a rear bedroom, C.J. Clayton, a curious thirteen-year-old who loves baseball, witnesses the murder from her hiding place beneath a sagging bed. C.J.'s irresponsible behavior leads her into a dangerous and deadly game of cat and mouse. But, unlike baseball, there are no rules.
