First edition of a wholly fictitious account by the stay-at-home London publisher Vizetelly that became a bestseller in England and America, with translations into French, German, Swedish, and Dutch. The work was largely accepted as true until Vizetelly confessed to the hoax in his autobiography, Glances Back through Seventy Years (London, 1893, pp. 343-347).
