Confirmatio constitutionum Frederici, & Karoline. Both colophons show that the Parisian bookseller and publisher Galliot du Pré (d. 1560) had engaged the services of the talented printer, Jean Cornilleau.
The current work is a collection of acts of Christian councils by Jacques Merlin. It includes the first printing of the so-called pseudo-Isidorian decretals, together with the Donation of Constantine. The work discusses Ecumenical councils: the Third Council of Constantinople (680-681), the Second Council of Nicaea (787), the Council of Constance (1414-18), and the Council of Basel (1431-1449). The work was suppressed on publication and resultingly rare. It was proved spurious by, among others, Bodley’s librarian Thomas James (1612; Bib# 4102690/Fr# 159 in this collection) and David Blondel (1628; Bib# 4102691/Fr# 160 in this collection).
