The use of painting materials, painting techniques and decorations on and in buildings is of decisive importance for how we experience architecture. Developments in painting materials and techniques in the period 1900-2000 left a clear mark on commercial properties, public buildings and private residences in Denmark. This book is about how and why this development took place. In the book, Johanne Bornemann Mogensen examines a representative selection of Danish buildings' original color schemes and decorated surfaces, and she describes and analyzes the technological development and techniques of the paint materials used in the light of the history of style, the social development and the working conditions of Danish painters in the period. The painting is richly illustrated with new footage by architectural photographer Roberto Fortuna. The book is published this year on the occasion of Copenhagen's Malerlaug's 400th anniversary and, as the first in a Danish context, provides a comprehensive overview of the use of painting materials and techniques in 20th-century architecture Anvendelsen af malematerialer, maleteknikker og dekorationer på og i bygninger har afgørende betydning for, hvordan vi oplever arkitekturen. Udviklingen inden for malematerialer og teknikker kom i perioden 1900-2000 til at sætte et tydeligt præg på erhvervsejendomme, offentlige bygninger og private boliger i Danmark. Denne bog handler om, hvordan og hvorfor denne udvikling fandt sted. I bogen undersøger Johanne Bornemann Mogensen et repræsentativt udvalg af danske bygningers oprindelige farvesætninger og dekorerede overflader, og hun beskriver og analyserer de anvendte malematerialers teknologiske udvikling og teknikker i lyset af stilhistorien, den samfundsmæssige udvikling og danske maleres arbejdsforhold i perioden. Malet er rigt illustreret med nye optagelser af arkitekturfotograf Roberto Fortuna. Bogen udkommer i år i anledning af Københavns Malerlaugs 400-års jubilæum og giver som den første i en dansk sammenhæng et samlet bud på anvendelsen af malematerialer og teknikker i det 20. århundredes arkitektur
