About
The new »Paul« is the only single-volume of German on historical principles in which the citation of sources from post-1945 literature figures as prominently as material from earlier periods. It thus contrives both to enhance our understanding of earlier literature (notably Classical and Romantic) and to prompt more searching reflection on the structures and tendencies of modern German by placing them in a historical perspective. As such it is addressed very pointedly to teachers of German. Central features of the new edition are the inclusion of important foreign or international words and updating to reflect the latest developments in German vocabulary, notably in the fields of science and technology, media and public language use, the language of the Wende and of the GDR. There has also been a thorough revision of the content index, categorizing the vocabulary from historical and systematic perspectives and facilitating its use for didactic purposes.
