About
The playscript Mommies In Me was developed as a partial fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts degree in Drama with an emphasis in Playwriting at the University of Arkansas. The intention of this document is to present the creation, research and contents of the playscript Mommies In Me as it went through its development process, rehearsal period and premiere production. It includes the inspiration behind the playscript, the research used to create the playscript, an account of how it was developed, a journal of the rehearsal of its production and the feedback received by the audience afterwards. The playscript Mommies In Me is one-woman show about an eccentric and witty female awaiting the birth of her second child. Stuck at home alone on her due date, she comforts herself by communicating with the audience about her previous birthing experience, birthing experiences of mothers before her, going back to the first mother Eve and birthing experiences from mothers contemporary to her. She becomes these different mothers, taking the audience on a journey through time, creating a story that reflects many aspects of the experience of childbirth and motherhood throughout history. This document also contains several drafts of this playscript including the final draft after the premiere production, the draft used in the premiere production, the draft at the end of a One-Performer-Script class and the first draft, a ten-minute play. Along with these drafts it contains a production program that gives information about the production company and production photographs.
