The Liberal Party and the Economy, 1929-1964 is a study of the development of economic ideas in the British Liberal Party between its electoral decline in the 1920s and 1930s and its post-war revival under Jo Grimond. It analyses the different currents of Liberal economic thought which existed during the first half of the twentieth century, traces the evolution of Liberal policy through the Depression, the Second World War, and the 'golden age' of the1950s and 1960s, and examines the party's complex relationship with both Keynesian economics and the early neoliberal movement. It thus casts new light both on the contours of economic debate in twentieth-centuryBritain and on the ideological antecedents of today's Liberal Democrats.
