Visibility is a trap
by Sonja Nilsson
About
Exploring the concept of passing. Amanda Lear, Billy Tipton, Brandon Teena, Grey Owl, JT Leroy. Sandy Stone are some people portrayed in the book. Sonja Nilsson's works exhibited under the title 'Visibility is a trap' from 2019 consist of a number of diorama scenes where video-projected characters come together. In the scenes, they talk, discuss and quarrel over their stories related to the sociology concept of "Passing", a person's ability to be perceived as a member of an identity group or category other than their origin. In 'the Source Book', Nilsson gives a personal introduction to the persons referred to in the dialogues, and the people on whom the characters in the pieces are based on. This is the second edition of the book, which now is reworked and expanded with a new chapter. Exhibition: Norrtälje Konsthall, Sweden (10.-12.2019).
