Preface: The purposes of this work is to supply a complete instruction and reference book for Buglers, Trumpeters and Drummers ini any branch of the United States Service. In order to make the work as complete as possible, some calls not in use at present have been included, inasmuch as they might again be adopted at some future time. It has been the author's endevor to embody all information of interest to the bugler or company mucisian, without constant repetition of statement of unnecessary and obvious facts that clog up the average book of this kind, and help only in overfilling the work with uninteresting material and confuse the student. The rudiments are here sufficiently explained; the exercises for beginners are instructive, and only good quick-steps, inspection pieces, etc., have been used.
