About
A compilation of articles and essays written and selected by Néstor Murray-Irizarry, the founder of Casa Paoli, the Puerto Rico Center for Folkloric Research. These writings were selected based on three fundamental criteria: themes of most interest to Murray-Irizarry in his study of Puerto Rican culture, new contributions to the discussion of the people's concerns, and the enrichement of the cultural heritage of the people who live on the Caribbean and Ibero-American island of Puerto Rico. The book's design is inspired by a multidisciplinary vision of national culture in which the same issue is considered from many different perspectives and approaches, including music (classical, popular, and folk); education; Puerto Rico and the struggle for hegemony in the Caribbean; historical preservation. Also included are various articles that discuss the work of Murray-Irizarry, a tireless investigator and scholar of culture.
