About
"The Biomedical Image Library is a publicly accessible repository and retrieval system for original digital micrographs that have been produced in support of basic biological research. Funded through Harvard's Library Digital Initiative, BIL is a collaboration between the Countway Library of Medicine, the Biomedical Imaging Laboratory at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard University Library. BIL also features a central catalog that allows investigators to search BIL holdings through text-based and controlled-vocabulary queries. Investigators can identify and retrieve material through structured, hierarchic metadata that preserve the scientific context of each image or set of images"--From title screen.
