"Many Western countries now experience population ageing when the large post World War II birth cohorts retire and age. The future consequences of ageing are an issue of research that might have far-reaching policy implications. Although the Swedish dependency ratios will not increase as much as in some of the South and Central European countries, Sweden will share the experience of a major increase in the number of elderly and in particular in the number of old-olds with most other European countries."
