A Critical Edition of the Comical History of Francion 1655

A Critical Edition of the Comical History of Francion 1655

About
This is the first English translation of Charles Sorel's la vraie Histoire Comique de Francion (1633). The editor, Daniel A. Gajda, has modernized the 17th century font, provided the reader with a glossary of the English used, and compared it to the French original. He has also proved who the anonymous author, "a gentleman of honor," is: Major John Wright. He has also discovered that the 1661 edition is a remake of this original with only the title page changed: an in-folio trick. Also, there are multiple Royalist references (see page 13) inserted since translations were not yet suspected by the Cromwell government.
