From Algeria to France and back: The changing literary identity of Mouloud Feraoun, Mohammed Dib and Mouloud Mammeri

The regionalist sphere in which Feraoun, Dib and Mammeri evolve contributed to the creation of a separate cultural identity that is both French and Algerian or neither French, nor Algerian. Pondering over the meaning of the key words "Algerian" and "French" during the colonial era, in my study, I offer a more nuanced portrait of what it means to be a "Muslim writer" in the French language in a territory that was completely integrated into the geopolitical and cultural systems of the colonial power, France, and reveal the "French" regionalist characteristics and affiliation of this "Muslim" literature.
