Becoming the Crane

An inexplicable curse has plagued the people of Anceal for longer than history or language can remember. Children born to human parents begin to change, bodies twisting to resemble birds, snakes, wolves. Many are cast out and few survive. Paji, one such cursed orphan, believes it could be different. Legend has it that the cursed race has a savior, or perhaps a destroyer, in The Warden of the Past. When there is nothing more than legend left to preserve them, Paji leads her unlikely family of motley military scouts, monks, and dragons on an impossible journey to set The Warden free. But all their efforts may not be enough to rescue a being so ancient, so elusive, that none among them know just who-- or what-- they seek.
