Vernunft und Religion bei Herodot

Herodotus' presentation of history is shaped in many different ways by the religion of his time. The observation that he often attributes the reasons for human actions or events to the influence of the gods, however, has too often and too hastily led scholars to deny Herodotus a rational interpretation of the conditions of historical action. The investigation in this book is based on the observation that Herodotus' historical analysis is distinguished by the consideration of many contributing factors, including societal, cultural, ethical, religious, and other relevant factors.
