About
This is the third book derived from the research of the Underwater Archaeology Project in the Nevado de Toluca of the Subdirección de Arqueología Subacuática of INAH. With this work, an important step is taken in the knowledge of the ritual activities that took place inside the crater of the volcano. Throughout 13 chapters written by different specialists, various topics are addressed such as the archaeological objects located in the volcano, the laboratory and cabinet analysis of the offerings deposited inside the lakes of the Sun and the Moon, aspects of the archaeological chronology of the Toluca Valley, as well as possible cultural and temporal relations between the volcano and other archaeological sites in the region. Likewise, mythological stories are presented about the formation of the Nevado de Toluca, the importance of the aquatic entities that governed the bodies of water in the lowlands and the crater lakes, as well as a wide variety of topics that allude to the rituality, worldview and identity of this sacred mountain.
