Of all the successor states of the Ottoman Empire, Greece and Turkey have moved the farthest in the direction of coping with the challenges relating to the transition to modernity. The goal of the series Social and Historical Studies on Greece and Turkey is to serve as a forum for discourse and dialogue between Greek and Turkish social scientists and historians, contributing to the ongoing theoretical debates in the international social science community, concerning the economic, cultural, political, and social aspects of modernity.
