"Over the course of a more than 40-year career in sports administration, Kim Un-yongserved as KSOC chairman and IOC Executive Board member and vice president. One of the greats of the South Korean sports world, he made major contributions to bringing numerous major international competitions and conferences to South Korea, including the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, the 2002 South Korea-Japan World Cup, and several IOC Sessions. He also succeeded in having taekwondo adopted as an official Olympic event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and organizing joint entrances by the North and South Korean squads at the event's opening and closing ceremonies"--
