Clune outlines the principles for a strategy for social reorganisation to overcome social and economic problems he perceived in Europe in his time. His solution was consistent with Catholic Social Thought, especially in the light of Pope Pius XI's encyclical Quadragesimo Anno. The book demonstrates the economic and social efficacy of pre-modern Europe and the deficiencies of both socialism and liberalism (capitalism).
