Ivan Pryzhov (1827-1885) was a historian and ethnographer. He was also involved in the extremist organization "Narodnaia Rasprava" the activity of which became a topic for Dostoevskii's novel "Besy". The book includes Pryzhov' works in the history of the lower classes and "strange people" in Moscow and Siberia. In addition to works which were reprinted recently, this book includs his writing which are published fro the first time since their fist edition.
