Father & Son: Power; Aggression; Anger

The role of father and the relationship with his son is vital and imperative to life. Although recent interest in this relationship has resulted in some investigation and scrutiny, focus has been mostly in social and economic domains; there is little to illuminate the emotional, behavioral, and spiritual connections between father and son. However, literature, mythology, and contemporary media do present fundamental and complex characteristics and dimensions of this relationship, and numerous developmental and psychological theories offer a framework for interpretation and meaning. Specifically, Oedipus the King, Hamlet Prince of Denmark, Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, and Harry Potter all reveal the inherent elements of the father/son relationship; Power, Aggression, and Anger. They provide insight into and revelations about the father/son relationship, which establishes a foundation for helping boys, men, and fathers to find a secure sense of self, awareness of their relationships, and enlightenment regarding the natural spirituality of being a man.
