Volume 1, embracing the period 1903-1919, contains 405 letters, the vast majority of which are those written by the composer (322). These letters were sent from/to Szymanowski's village of Tymoszowka (then in the Kiev Governorate of the Russian Empire, now in Ukraine), Kropyvnytskyi, Warsaw, Lviv, Cracow, Zakopane, Moscow, Petersburg, Vienna, Berlin, London, Rome, Palermo, Florence, or Paris.
