The Complete Readfeed App Guide
Everything in Readfeed and how it works — clubs, chat, the AI Readfeed Guide, AI facilitation, topic rotation, reading, and more. This is the same knowledge the Readfeed Guide uses to answer your questions in any club chat.

Getting started
Readfeed is a social reading app: join book clubs, chat about books, track your reading, and read ebooks — on the mobile app (iOS and Android) or on the web at readfeed.com.
- Sign up free with email, Google, Facebook, or Apple.
- Every new member is automatically added to the Readfeed Introductions club — say hello there, and the Readfeed Guide (a clearly-labeled AI assistant) will welcome you and answer questions.
- Full step-by-step tutorials with videos live at readfeed.com/tutorials.
Finding your way around
The mobile app has six tabs: Home, Clubs, Search, Read, My Books, and Profile.
- A club's chat IS the club's page — there is no separate club homepage. The banner at the top of the chat shows the club name; tapping it, or the "More" chip under it, opens Club tools (club details). The chip with the people icon lists the members; the chip with the book icon lists the club's reading list. The back arrow at the top left returns to the Clubs tab.
- On the web, the same features live in the top navigation: Home, Find Book Clubs, My Book Clubs, Book Tracker, Search, and your profile menu. Book Tracker (readfeed.com/my-books) is where you track your reading: it holds your shelves, and its Library tab holds the ebooks you've opened or purchased.
Book clubs: create, join, invite
- Create a club: in the app, the + icon at the top right of the Clubs tab (name, description, a private toggle, and an optional book). On the web, use the "Start a book club" button — the web form also lets you pick books, enable AI facilitation, or set a manual discussion topic.
- Discovery details: a club can carry up to 3 genre tags, a meeting format (virtual, in-person, or hybrid — in-person/hybrid clubs also list a city/region), a language, and a pace (slow/moderate/fast). These help readers find the right club and can be set or edited from the club's edit form.
- Join a club: browse Discover on the Clubs tab, or find clubs via Search. Most public clubs join in one tap; a host can turn on "request to join" for their club, in which case tapping Join sends a request that a host or co-admin approves or declines (you get a notification either way, and can cancel a pending request). Private clubs need an invitation or an invite code. On the web, the club-finder page can be filtered by genre, meeting format, language, pace, and location, and sorted (newest, most members, or alphabetical).
- Paid clubs: some clubs charge a monthly membership fee, set by the host. Tapping Join on one of these opens a secure Stripe checkout instead of joining right away — membership starts once payment goes through. Leaving a paid club does not refund the current period; you keep access until it ends, then the subscription simply is not renewed. Being removed or banned from a paid club cancels billing immediately.
- Invite people: tap the share icon at the top of the club chat — it shares the club's invite code. Any member can do this. Redeem a code in the "Have an invite code?" box at the top of My Clubs; invitations sent to you appear there too, with Accept/Decline.
- Leave a club: "More" chip → Leave club.
- The club owner is shown as Host (the organizer) in the member list. The host can promote members to co-admin or moderator, and can transfer ownership of the club to another member. Co-admins share the host's management powers: editing club details, scheduling and deleting meetings, setting the reading schedule, and removing or banning members.
- Welcome message: a host can set a short welcome message for their club (in the create/edit form). New members see it once when they join, it's included in invitation emails, and the Readfeed Guide may greet new members with it in chat.
- Branding: a host can set an accent color and a banner image for their club from the edit form — light customization only, no white-label.
- Export members: the host can download the member list (names, emails, join dates) as a CSV from the members panel.
- Recommendations: every club has a "readers also shelved" rail suggesting new books based on everything the club has read, is reading, or has shelved — it never repeats a book the club already has on its list.
- Recommended for you: a ranked list of public clubs picked for you based on books you've shelved, how active a club is, and its member count — clubs you've already joined are excluded.
Club chat
Club chat supports @mentions, replies, emoji reactions (long-press a message), and image attachments (up to 5 per message). Messages from the Readfeed Guide are clearly labeled as AI.
- You can delete your own messages any time. A host, co-admin, or moderator can also delete anyone's message in their club (moderation) — deleted messages disappear from the chat for everyone.
- You can report a message, user, or other piece of content you think breaks the rules — it goes into a queue the Readfeed team reviews.
The Readfeed Guide (AI assistant)
The Readfeed Guide is a clearly-labeled AI assistant that participates in club chats.
- It welcomes new members in the Readfeed Introductions club and replies when you post in a club chat.
- It can discuss the books your club is reading and answer questions about how to use Readfeed — its answers come from this guide.
- It never pretends to be human, and if it can't help it will point you to a human: email support@readfeed.com or ask your club's host.
- Muting the Guide: the club organizer (the member who created the club) can turn the Guide off for their whole club by typing @guide off in the club chat, and back on with @guide on. While the Guide is muted, any member can still summon a one-off reply by mentioning @guide in a message. In the Readfeed Introductions club the Guide is always on.
AI facilitation
AI facilitation keeps a club's discussion moving without the host writing every prompt.
- When AI facilitation is enabled for a club (on the web club create/edit form; it requires a membership plan that includes the AI facilitator), Readfeed's AI reads the club's book list and generates a set of about 10 thoughtful discussion topics tailored to those books.
- If the club's books change, the topics are regenerated to match.
- With AI facilitation off, the host writes the club's discussion topic themselves on the web club form.
- Members always see the club's current topic in the club; topics change automatically via topic rotation (next section). Members cannot create topics in the mobile app.
Topic rotation
Each club shows one current discussion topic at a time, and Readfeed rotates it automatically so there is always something fresh to talk about.
- The current topic rotates to the next one on a per-club schedule — every 12 hours by default.
- When the topic rotates, club members receive an email letting them know the new topic.
- Rotation cycles through the club's topic list (AI-generated when AI facilitation is on) until the topics are used up.
Meetings, polls & activities, recaps
Club tools (the "More" chip in the club chat) holds these:
- Meetings: the host or a co-admin can schedule, edit and delete meetings; members see them in the club and on Home, get email reminders 24 hours and 15 minutes before start, and can add each one to their calendar individually via a Google Calendar link or a downloadable .ics file (no account connection needed — one-way, per meeting). Members can RSVP going/maybe/declined. A meeting can repeat (daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly) — Readfeed automatically schedules the upcoming occurrences, and the host can edit or cancel just one occurrence or the whole series.
- Discussion guide: each meeting shows the club's current book's AI-generated discussion questions — the same questions available on the book's page, so there's always something to talk about even without a manual agenda.
- Meeting capacity & waitlist: a host can optionally cap how many members can RSVP going. Once a meeting is full, RSVPing going joins a first-come-first-served waitlist instead; if someone going cancels, the longest-waiting member is automatically promoted and notified. Waitlisted members don't get "starts soon" reminders (they aren't confirmed to attend yet).
- Announcements: the host or a co-admin can post a club-wide announcement — it shows as a pinned card in club chat, and every other member gets a notification (optionally an email too, capped to about one announcement email per club per day).
- In-person & hybrid meetings: a meeting can be virtual, in-person, or hybrid. In-person and hybrid meetings require a location (a venue name and/or address); Readfeed shows a "get directions" map link on the meeting and includes the location in calendar invites and reminder emails.
- Polls & activities: the host can create polls for the club to vote in, including a "find a time" scheduling poll — members mark every time option they are available for, and the host (or whoever started the poll) can turn the leading time into a real scheduled meeting with one tap.
- Recaps: summaries of what the club has been discussing, available under Club tools.
- Subscribe in your calendar: besides adding one meeting at a time, Settings has a personal calendar subscription link — add it once to Apple/Google/Outlook Calendar and every upcoming meeting across all your clubs (next 90 days) shows up automatically and stays in sync, including cancellations. The link can be regenerated any time to revoke access from an old device.
- Connect Google Calendar: Settings also has a direct Google Calendar connection (OAuth) — once connected, your Readfeed meetings sync automatically to your Google Calendar (create, update, and cancel), without needing per-meeting links or the subscription feed. You can disconnect at any time.
Live sessions
Any member can tap Go live at the top of a club chat to start a live video/audio room. Others join as listeners, and the host of the session can invite them to speak or mute them. While a session is running, a red LIVE badge shows in the chat and a "Live now" banner appears on Home.
Books & shelves
- The Search tab finds books, people, and clubs, and has a barcode scanner for ISBNs.
- My Books in the app (called Book Tracker on the web) holds your shelves: create a shelf, import from Goodreads, long-press a book to remove it.
- Import your library: on the web, readfeed.com/import imports a Goodreads or StoryGraph CSV export — shelves (including custom shelves), star ratings, and read dates come over. The mobile app's My Books tab also has an Import from Goodreads button.
- Community lists at readfeed.com/lists are reader-built book lists ranked by votes — browse Popular and New, and vote for the books you love (lists are created in the mobile app).
- A book's page lets you rate it, update reading progress (by page or percent), add it to a shelf, and post reviews, discussions, and quotes. Some books can be read or bought in the app.
- Some books run an author giveaway (an ebook or a signed copy) — entering from the book page automatically adds the book to your To-Read shelf, and you'll be notified if you win.
- Every book page also links out to buy it from Bookshop.org (supports local bookstores) or Amazon.
- A written review can also include a link to a hosted video review.
- Some reviewers carry a VIP Reviewer badge, granted by the Readfeed team, shown on their reviews.
- Every book's page shows an AI-generated "what readers are saying" summary once it has reviews — themes, praise, and common criticism distilled from other readers' reviews.
Reading on Readfeed
The Read tab has free classics, indie ebooks, and My Library, with a built-in reader (themes, font size, highlights). On the web, your library of opened and purchased ebooks is the Library tab inside Book Tracker (readfeed.com/my-books). Reading streaks appear on Home and My Books.
- Everyone gets a free reading-stats bundle: books/pages read, average rating, top genres and authors, a monthly chart, and your longest/shortest book for the year.
- Everyone also gets an advanced stats view on top of that: a full genre/category breakdown with percentages, a completion heatmap, a rolling reading-pace trend, your all-time longest reading streak, and a monthly rating trend.
Home, messages & notifications
- Home shows your streak, live clubs, upcoming meetings, recent club activity, and friends' reading updates. This feed is read-only — no likes or comments.
- The mail icon at the top of Home opens direct messages — you can only message readers who share a book club with you.
- The bell icon opens notifications. Email notification preferences are managed in Settings; a reader with a verified phone number can also turn on text reminders for meetings and reading milestones (opt-in, off by default). Reply STOP to any Readfeed text to turn SMS back off.
Profile & settings
The gear icon on the Profile tab opens Settings — edit your photo, name, username, and bio; manage email notification preferences; add and verify a phone number (a 6-digit code is texted to confirm it — this is what unlocks SMS reminders where available); manage membership on readfeed.com; Tutorials (in-app step-by-step guides); FAQ & Help; log out; delete account.
Membership plans
Readfeed is free to use. Some features — like AI facilitation and creating private or additional clubs — depend on your club/creator membership plan. View and manage your membership at readfeed.com (Settings → manage membership in the app).
For club organizers, Readfeed Unlimited (the Pro plan, also included in Enterprise) adds: custom club branding (accent color and banner image), CSV member-roster export, advanced club analytics, priority support, and unlimited club creation. The core toolkit stays free on every plan — roles, member management, remove/ban moderation, meetings and recurring meetings, discovery, announcements, join requests, reading schedules, waitlists, polls, club recommendations, buy-links, and discussion guides are never gated.
- Advanced club analytics: an organizer or co-admin dashboard covering member growth over time, meeting RSVP/attendance trends, discussion activity and top posters, and reading-progress across the club's current book.
- Priority support: reports/feedback from a Pro or Enterprise member are flagged for faster attention in the support queue — this speeds up routing to Readfeed's team, not an automated response.
Things Readfeed does not have
- No sending a club invite to a specific person — share the invite code instead.
- No likes or comments on the Home feed, and no push-notification toggles in the app.
- No editing a club's name or description in the mobile app — the host or a co-admin can edit them on the web club page. (Hosts and co-admins CAN remove or ban members — that is no longer a limitation.)
- Members cannot create discussion topics in the mobile app — topics are set by rotation or by the host on the web.
